Senate Concurrent Resolution 541

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE MISSISSIPPI STATE UNIVERSITY BULLDOG BASEBALL TEAM FOR ITS OUTSTANDING SEASON.

WHEREAS, the MSU Bulldog baseball team earned a repeat appearance in the College World Series in 1998; and

WHEREAS, the MSU Bulldogs' post-season play marked the 22nd post-season berth for the tradition laden Bulldogs; and

WHEREAS, the Bulldogs advanced to their third consecutive NCAA Regional; and

WHEREAS, in the NCAA Regional, after a tough one-run loss in the double elimination tournament, the never-say-die Dogs charged back to win the regional by sweeping two straight from the nationally ranked host, Texas A&M; and

WHEREAS, the Diamond Dogs finished the season with an overall record of 42-23 and a 5-3 post-season record; and

WHEREAS, the MSU Bulldogs won the annual Mayor's Cup with a 6-2 win over rival Ole Miss; and

WHEREAS, in addition to excelling on the field, the 1998 Bulldogs excelled in the classroom leading the SEC with 10 players on the 1998 SEC Baseball Academic Honor Roll; and

WHEREAS, for the second consecutive year the Dogs placed three players on the GTE-COSIDA Academic All-American Team and was the only team to have three honorees; and

WHEREAS, Coach Pat McMahon was honored as the ABCA South Region Coach of the Year in his first year at the helm of the MSU Bulldogs; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to commend the meritorious accomplishments of the citizens of this state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the 1998 MSU Bulldog baseball team for its outstanding season.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to the MSU Bulldog baseball team.
